Cougar is quickly becoming a major player in the world of PC cases, fans and power supplies. With strong entries in each of those categories, Cougar takes the next step presenting their newest piece of hardware, The CFD 120mm case fan.
One of the aspects which could have been cause for concern is the locked 1200 RPM speed. Due to this, if you were expecting overly obnoxious loud fan noise from the CFD, you would be mistaken. The noise levels are insignificant which is amazing given the rate of speed and cooling power housed by the Cougar CFD. Cougar claims the blade design has the ability to not only offer more airflow, but more consistent air pressure. In addition, the blades also sports teeth or claws which “grabs” the air as the blades spin. When these features are put together, you end up with less noise. If that was not enough, the CFD come with rubber mounts around the screw holes to lessen any vibration coming from the fan. When all is said and done, Cougar knows what they are talking about.

The overall build quality involved here is outstanding. You never get the feeling a blade or the surrounding fan housing is cheap or will soon break due to the constant use a fan must endure. The power cable that accompanies the CFD is wrapped in a high quality mesh-like rubber sleeve giving off a great look. The cable length is also nice as it reaches other molex connectors without a problem. The only downside to this particular unit was the presentation of the fans themselves. Some may not be at all interested in glowing neon red, blue or green lights brightly emanating from their cases. Fear not because Cougar does offer non-LED versions of the CFD for those minimalists out there.
Is It Worth Your Money?
The Cougar CFD is a great purchase at the $20 price point. If you are interested in high build quality, good looks and fantastic cooling, do not think twice about throwing down your hard-earned cash.
