Developed by The Tiniest Shark and published by industry indie vets, Positech Games, Redshirt takes social networking and beams it up onto your PC.  Redshirt is a turn-based life-sim game set aboard a space station called Megalodon 9.  Your role starts off as a bottom-feeding transporter clean up tech who must get off the station within 180 days.  Reasons behind the deadline of six months is under close guard by Positech and The Tiniest Shark so you will just have to play the waiting game.  Pre-orders are now being taken at the $19.95 price point with instant access to the current beta and promise of Steam keys shortly after launch.  Redshirt will be available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Here is the official press release blurb from Positech:

“Redshirt is the comedy sci-fi sim about social networking aboard a space station, starring the station’s most ambitious low-ranking peon: you! Navigate the professional and interpersonal politics of the ubiquitous ‘Spacebook’ to curry favor among friends and colleagues. As intense intergalactic conflict rages around you, it’s up to you to accrue those all-important ‘likes’ on your status updates!”

I’ve been following the development of Redshirt since it was first announced, so I’m going to be the guy who contradicts you and say they’ve already revealed the reason for the time limit, though they may have changed it in the interim. Shall I spoil it for everyone?

Also: I’m very much anticipating this game. It looks and sounds to be quite rad.

I just got a press release for this today and that was part of it. I decided it would be fun to tease a bit.

I do not know why there is a 180 day limit so keep that under your hat. 🙂
