Established as a premium brand for professional gamers and sound enthusiasts, ASTRO Gaming’s series of headsets has been catering to esports players in particular for the last couple of years. Now, with live streaming of video games gaining prominence, they’ve been challenged with adapting to these two different environments, which results in their latest iteration of the A40 headset, unveiled Friday. The A40 TR – “tournament ready” – offers the same amenities that previous iterations provided: optimal sound quality and surround capabilities, comfortable design, and a ton of customization options via ASTRO mod kits. What’s new is the accompanying Mixamp Pro TR, which has been massively revised. The previously analogue circuitry has been replaced to be all digital, allowing interference-free gaming and minimal delay time. A stream output switch allows full and direct control over what your audience hears, which should make the lives of streamers a lot easier when juggling game audio and their voice input on the fly.

The ASTRO Command Center software offers further customization options like EQ settings, noisegate, side tone and the like. Differently branded ASTRO Mod Kits, on the other hand, are specifically tailored to tournament environments, by offering noise canceling speaker tags and ear cushions, as well as a voice isolating microphone that eliminates background noise and focuses on your voice. The TR product line will launch on October 8th, with a retail price of $250 for the A40 TR + Mixamp Pro set and $60 for the different A40 TR Mod Kits. We will have a review ready shortly after launch.
